The 'Better, Sooner, More Convenient' Initiative
The Ministry of Health called for expressions of interest about how to improve primary health care to deliver 'better, sooner, more convenient' health care in the community.
The Canterbury Clinical Network proposed a transformation of the health system for the people of Canterbury, signalling greater clinical leadership supported by sound management, sector-wide collaboration and community engagement.
The Ministry announced on 4 November 2009 that nine submissions were successful - one of which was ours - and gave us some funding and direction to carry on.

The next step, as directed by the Ministry, was to develop a more detailed plan and describe how we intend to implement it.
That was complete and we again received instruction that our business case would be progressing to the implementation phase from July 2010.
From the business case we have are developing a work programme over the next three years. The business case provides a direction of travel only - it will evolve over time.
Throughout this process we need your feedback. We still have a lot of work to do - success in transforming Canterbury's health care relies on clinical and community input and participation as much as possible.
As the plan evolves we want to engage with you about the models of care and resourcing changes that might be needed to achieve the 'better, sooner, more convenient' patient care the Ministry wants. Register on this website, email us with your feedback, or with your interest to become involved.
